Changes at Northlands

We are seeing some changes in Edmonton’s event hosting landscape as Northlands begins a major overhaul of its facilities. They presented a plan in February that includes:

  • Converting Rexall Place into an athletic complex with seven hockey rinks and areas for other indoor sports
  • Converting Northlands Park Racetrack and Casino into an Urban Festival site with capacity for 140,000 people
  • Renovating Hall D to create a 5000-seat venue

The community will benefit from having a new place to play sports, but we are keeping a careful eye on the potential impact of the outdoor stage. We need to ask questions about the noise and crowds and other developments such as retail and residential spaces. Call Northlands at 780-471-7210, your city councilor (Tony Caterina in Ward 7, 780-496-8333; or Scott McKeen in Ward 6, 780-496-8140) and let them know what you think.
